Hello! My name is Johanna (also known as Jo).
I am a professional portrait, event, and dog sports photographer based on the beautiful Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland.
Originally from New Zealand, I relocated to Australia in 2016 with my family. Growing up, animals were always my greatest interest. While I initially set out to pursue a career in veterinary nursing, earning my Certificate II in Animal Studies, I quickly realized my stomach wasn't quite cut out for the medical side of animal care. Determined to find a different path in the animal industry, my hobbies of drawing and painting naturally led me into a deep passion for photography, specifically pet portraits.
During my senior years of schooling I completed advanced studies in Film, TV, and New Media. Learning the technical fundamentals of camera operation, lighting, and composition taught me how to capture high-quality images, regardless of the gear in my hands.
Following years of technical research and practicing on my own pets, I officially launched my portfolio and business in November 2021. To refine my craft further, I enrolled in a comprehensive online photography course through Ulleo, ensuring my technical skills and editing workflows remain at an industry standard.
At the heart of my business and the face behind the Johanna Hastie Photography logo, is my beautiful 15-year-old Chihuahua x Pomeranian, Taffy, who has been with me since I was 10 years old. Realizing that our time with our beloved pets is fleeting, I became determined to capture quality portraits of her. Taffy was also the dog who introduced me to the wonderful world of dog sports, starting our journey together through agility training at a local club back in New Zealand. Today I continue to chase that high-speed trial energy, actively competing in agility and jumping with my weird and wonderful Border Collie cross Harper at the Tablelands Dog Obedience Club in Atherton.
Today, Johanna Hastie Photography proudly services the Atherton Tablelands and surrounds. I know firsthand how much our animals and special milestones mean to us, so my goal is to capture those raw, fleeting moments and turn them into beautiful memories that we can cherish for a lifetime.
